Here is what the New York State legislature wants: more funds for schools, and a tax increase of 7/10 of a percent for people earning over $100,000 a year. Seven-tenths of a percent.
Here is what the New York State Governor, George Pataki, has to say about that: "I would hope that they will not pass it. But I have made it very plain that I will oppose and fight any job-killing tax, such as a personal income tax surcharge, that I believe would really hurt this state's economic competitiveness and drive jobs out." Not surprisingly, his ratings are dropping, given that favoring the rich over schoolchildren is not the most popular stance. I bet GOPAC is wetting its collective trousers, though.
