The project manager of an album my company is putting out recently sent an e-mail about said project to the artists and managers involved (it's a compilation). Here is an excerpt from her e-mail, offered without comment.

Please find below an email X sent out to the artists and managers involved in the project for your information. This email attempted to explain in non-legal terms how X imagines the project should run on the buisness side, in the unlikely event that it goes into profit.
